Customized Water Purification Solutions
We recommend point-of-entry (POE) water purification systems over canister filters and the like. POE systems are more expensive up front but deliver better value long term.
They also give you cleaner water throughout your entire home. That includes drinking water from faucets but also water for your showerheads, toilets, water heater, dishwasher, and so forth.
The challenge with POE systems is selecting the right flow rate or gallons per minute (GPM). It’s important to hire a professional for this reason. Our plumbers will help you choose the ideal GPM for your household. Doing so will help you avoid low water pressure and other issues that can occur due to low GPM. Our plumbers will also help you explore the different water filter types.
Most systems have a sediment filter to trap particulates in the water. What a mechanical water filter can trap depends on the size of its pores. You’ll need an absolute size of about one micron to trap cysts, such as cryptosporidium and giardia.
Activated charcoal is a common choice for water purification as well. It’s a highly absorptive substance that can soak up unpleasant smells and tastes. It also absorbs gases and chemicals. That includes volatile organic compounds, pesticides, and herbicides.
Some systems have an ultraviolet (UV) light. That lamp emits UV-C, which is a germicidal light. It neutralizes bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms.
If you have hard water, you can add a water softener. It will replace the calcium and magnesium with either sodium or potassium. If you have acidic water, you can add a water conditioner. It will add a substance, such as caustic soda, to the water to increase the pH.
Water purification can remove many impurities from your water.
